Special commission for a Hollywood producer’s 50th birthday. His girlfriend surprised him with this painting which reflects some of his past successes, inside jokes and phrases, the coordinates where they met, pet names, his country of origin, early beginnings and companies he founded. 47 layers of stencil on custom wood panel. 36” x 48”

New paintings for the new @thehivesm location in Manhattan Beach 🐝

During my last visit to Lancaster, in 2019, I spent three days painting these crosswalks using the City’s road marking tools, traffic paint, and equipment. I painted the crosswalks over the course of three days using the City’s roadmarking tools, traffic paint, and equipment. I only pre-designed part of one section and relied on my ability to ‘play jazz’ with the giant stencils of symbols and letters on-site. My goal was to strike a balance in terms of ‘weight’ and color, while also discovering new patterns and symbols along the way through creative configuration. Shouts to Lancaster’s traffic painting crew—Chris, Dave, and Gary—who were initially skeptical about my vision (and using their equipment 😅) but gradually came on board as the work started to take shape. Commissioned by the @cityoflancasterca in collaboration with the Museum of Art and History (@moahlancaster,) and curated by Museum Manager @andi_campognone. Video piece by @birdmanphotos
